Common Questions
You have questions.
We have answers.
Starting therapy is a big step, and it's completely normal to have questions. Here are some of the most common ones we hear.
What can I expect during my first session?
Your first session is a chance for us to get to know you — your story, your goals, and what brought you here. There's no pressure to share more than you're comfortable with. We'll talk through what you're hoping to get from counseling and begin building a plan that feels right for you.
How long does therapy typically last?
Every journey is different. Some clients find meaningful progress in 8–12 sessions; others prefer ongoing support over a longer period. We'll regularly check in on your goals and adjust the pace to fit what you need.
Do you offer telehealth sessions?
Yes! We offer secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth sessions for clients in Louisiana. Whether you prefer the convenience of meeting from home or have a schedule that makes in-person visits difficult, telehealth is a fully supported option.
Is everything I share kept confidential?
Absolutely. What you share in our sessions stays between us. Confidentiality is a cornerstone of ethical counseling practice, and we take it seriously. There are a small number of legal exceptions (such as imminent risk of harm), which we'll explain fully during your intake.
Do you accept insurance?
We are currently working toward accepting major insurance plans. At this time, we are a private-pay practice. We accept credit/debit cards and HSA/FSA cards. We also offer a sliding scale fee for clients who qualify — please reach out to discuss options.
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations or no-shows may be subject to a fee. We understand life happens — just reach out as soon as you know.
What areas do you serve?
We primarily serve clients in Orleans and Jefferson Parishes. Through telehealth, we can work with anyone located in the state of Louisiana.

Your Rights Under Federal Law
The No Surprises Act & Good Faith Estimate
Under the No Surprises Act (effective January 1, 2022), you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of the expected cost of your care before your first session — and at any time upon request.
This estimate will include the total expected cost of services, including session fees. You are entitled to receive this in writing at least one business day before your scheduled appointment.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute that bill. For questions or to request a Good Faith Estimate, contact us at sopheia@abrighterpathcs.com.
